Embark on an unforgettable three-hour voyage with the Tahoe Star, where you’ll discover the breathtaking beauty of Lake Tahoe and its iconic landmarks. Departing from either of our South Lake Tahoe Marinas, our journey begins as we cruise southwest toward the captivating Emerald Bay Fannette Island, the only island on Lake Tahoe where you can see Lora Knight’s tera house at the top. Over the centuries, the island has had many names. Admire the crystal-clear emerald waters and the majestic Fannette Island, home to Vikingsholm castle, a stunning example of Scandinavian architecture dating back to 1929. During the summer months, if time, dock availability, and lake levels allow, you can go ashore and enjoy one of the 30-minute guided tours of the castle during the summer months, or take a short stroll up to Eagle Falls, the only waterfall that flows directly into the lake.
We will then continue along the western shore, through DL Bliss’s dramatic high cliffs and deep water, with the possible viewing of some adventurous souls seeking thrills like cliff diving/rope swings into the water depth. We’ll reach Rubicon Point, where you’ll catch sight of the Rubicon Point Lighthouse, the highest-elevation lighthouse globally. Our route then leads us northwest to Meeks Bay, where you can indulge in a refreshing swim in the pristine waters or swim ashore to soak up the sun on its sandy shores. Having savored the splendor of Meeks Bay, we’ll begin our return journey, tracing a northeastern path, if weather/time allows, along Lake Tahoe’s eastern shore. Revel in the serene ambiance of the lake as we cruise back to the Marina, concluding your extraordinary adventure aboard the Tahoe Star.

Option 1 – West Shore

We’ll begin our adventure from one of the South Lake Tahoe Marinas, setting course towards the pristine Ski Beach. Enjoy the scenic ride as we cruise along the azure waters of Lake Tahoe, soaking in the beauty of the surrounding mountains and the crisp, fresh air.
Next, we’ll make our way to the crown jewel of Lake Tahoe – Emerald Bay. Marvel at the postcard-perfect scenery, with its emerald-green waters and majestic Fannette Island, the only island on Lake Tahoe. Get up close and personal with the captivating Vikingsholm Castle, an architectural masterpiece nestled on the shores of the bay. If you choose in the summer months and dock availability and water depth allows you can step ashore and have the opportunity to join the Vikingsholm home tours, which run every half hour. Led by knowledgeable guides, these tours provide fascinating insights into the history and intricacies of this remarkable structure. Discover the stories of the original owner, Mrs. Lora Josephine Knight, and her vision for creating a Scandinavian-style masterpiece amidst the stunning backdrop of Emerald Bay. You can also take a short walk to Cascade Falls from the Vikingsholm home, the only waterfall that flows directly into the lake.
As we continue our journey via beautiful Whisky Cove we’ll head north to Dl Bliss, renowned for its pristine beach, high cliffs and scenic hiking trails. You may get a glimpse of daredevils seeking thrills like cliff diving/roped swings into Lake Tahoe’s deep waters.
At Rubicon Point which dates back to the late 19th century played a crucial role in assisting boats to navigate the waters of Lake Tahoe at night. This is the highest lighthouse worldwide purely based on it’s elevation.
Next, we’ll satisfy your appetite with a delightful lunch stop at Sunnyside. This renowned lakeside restaurant offers a delectable menu featuring a diverse menu, highlighting seasonal ingredients and classic dishes including seafood, burgers, salads, and more. They also have a full bar and outdoor seating where you can relax, dine, and soak in the laid-back atmosphere while taking in the stunning lake views. Don’t miss their famous Hula Pie for dessert!
Finally, we’ll cruise back down the shoreline to the legendary Godfather house, Fleur Du Lac, a hidden gem on the shores of Lake Tahoe. Revel in the nostalgia as we pass by the iconic residence made famous by the Godfather II movie. From here, we’ll embark on a leisurely cruise across the lake so we can cruise down back across the lake to the South Shore. Sit back and marvel at the breathtaking expanse of Lake Tahoe aboard the iconic Tahoe Star, as you revel in its natural splendor and grandeur.

Please view our 9-hour suggested itinerary starting along the east shore, but instead of heading to sunnyside for lunch, you’ll enjoy an onboard catered specialty lunch of your selection while we cruise toward the captivating Emerald Bay Fannette Island, the only island on Lake Tahoe where you can see Lora Knight’s tera house at the top. From here, we’ll set course towards the pristine Ski Beach and then onto The Grove at Camp Richardson, formerly the Beacon Bar & Grill, where you can go ashore and enjoy one of its famous run runners. The historic Valhalla Estate is a short stroll through from Camp Richardson beach, where you can admire the history where Walter and Clair Heller’s love of Tahoe was undying of which they used the estate as their summer home from 1924-1956. Today the Valhalla Grand Hall hosts celebrations that rival the estates’ glory days in the late 1920s when famous guests danced the night away under the pines. Valhalla’s historic Boathouse Theatre now boasts the Valhalla Art, Music, and Theatre Festival, hosting productions that range from world-class musicians to dramatic and comedic theatre along with the annual Summer Concert series. You can choose this location to be your final and end it with one of their productions inside the boat house or on their lawn. Otherwise, we’ll have your return aboard the Star for a brief cruise back to the marina, concluding your day on Lake Tahoe.

If the winds are in our favor your day will begin with a leisurely cruise along the enchanting East Shore while enjoying a light breakfast/brunch buffet, offering panoramic vistas that will leave you in awe. As you glide through the crystalline waters, make sure to pause at Skunk Harbor, a secluded gem nestled along the shoreline, and maybe have a splash in the water.
Continue your voyage towards the renowned Sand Harbor, a true masterpiece of nature. Its golden shores and azure waters create a mesmerizing backdrop for a brief sojourn. Feel free to swim ashore to explore the beach or simply admire it from a distance.
Next on your itinerary is an enthralling visit to Thunderbird Lodge, a historic marvel nestled along the East Shore. Immerse yourself in the grandeur of this architectural gem as you embark on a guided tour that unveils the rich history and captivating stories woven into its very foundations. Private reservations for tours are a must to be able to explore this unique lodge which was built in 1940 by George Whittel Jr., an eccentric millionaire who owned a large swath of land on the east shore of Lake Tahoe. He was known for his love of exotic animals (he had a pet lion named Bill) and his extravagant lifestyle.
As your appetite builds, it’s time to venture towards the west shore to Sunnyside for a delightful late lunch/early dinner experience. This charming restaurant offers a diverse menu with options for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, including seafood, burgers, salads, and more. They also have a full bar and outdoor seating, allowing you to relax and soak in the tranquil atmosphere. Savor each bite while embracing the soothing ambiance and the gentle lapping of waves against the shore while enjoying their famous Hula Pie.
Having replenished your energy, we’ll continue your boating escapade, down the shoreline to the legendary Godfather house, Fleur Du Lac, a hidden gem on the shores of Lake Tahoe. Revel in the nostalgia as we pass by the iconic residence made famous by the Godfather II movie. We’ll then cruise past the renowned D.L. Bliss State Park. Admire the towering cliffs and vibrant foliage that adorn the landscape, each turn revealing a new marvel to feast your eyes upon.
The pinnacle of your journey awaits at the majestic Emerald Bay, a true gem of Lake Tahoe and not to be missed. From here, you will start to head back to your starting point, where you will enjoy your day with a sunset setting over the towering westshore peaks. This will be a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
